This guide covers seven self-storage facilities around Lacombe, in three areas along Highway 190: Lacombe itself on LA-434, Mandeville on Florida St, and Slidell on Gause Blvd W, Northshore Blvd and Pontchartrain Dr (Highway 11). Northshore Secure Storage is the only one in Lacombe; three are in west Slidell, two in Mandeville and one in south Slidell.

Highway 190 is the spine. The old highway runs along the lake side of the Northshore: it is Florida St in Mandeville, passes through Lacombe, and becomes Gause Blvd W in Slidell. Most of the storage near Lacombe sits on it or just off it. I-12 runs parallel to the north.

Lacombe. Northshore Secure Storage is at 61864 LA-434, 1.1 miles north of the Highway 190 traffic circle and 1.3 miles south of the I-12 ramp, near the Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge headquarters. That is 3 minutes from central Lacombe and within about 20 minutes of Mandeville, Slidell and Covington. It is the only facility in this guide in Lacombe itself.

Mandeville, on Florida St. Mandeville Self Storage at 2425 Florida St and Safe-Stor at 809 Florida St are both on Highway 190, 3 and 7 minutes from Mandeville City Hall. For Old Mandeville or the Causeway area, they are the short drive.

West Slidell, on Gause Blvd W and Northshore Blvd. Storage Rentals of America (2398 Gause Blvd W) and Public Storage (1709 Gause Blvd W) are on Highway 190 heading into Slidell, and Extra Space is at 150 Northshore Blvd by Mall Blvd. These suit the Northshore Blvd and Gause Blvd side of Slidell.

South Slidell. North Shore Mini Storage is at 4466 Pontchartrain Dr, which is Highway 11, near Salmen High School, 8 minutes from Slidell City Hall and 22 from central Lacombe.

How to choose storage on the Northshore

Decide whether climate control is needed. Humidity, more than heat, is what does the damage on the Northshore. Tools, patio furniture, holiday decorations and household goods packed in plastic tubs do fine in a drive-up unit. Wood antiques, electronics, photos and papers kept for a long stretch are better in a climate-controlled unit. The climate control guide goes through it.

Plan for hurricane season. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Before a storm, clearing a garage late at night or early in the morning is common, and after one, furniture often needs a home while a house is repaired. Access hours matter then: most facilities in this guide close at 10pm or midnight.

Think about the daily route. For anyone who drives I-12 or Highway 190 every day, a unit just off the route saves a trip across the Northshore on every visit. Northshore Secure Storage is about a mile from each.

Drive-up or indoor. With a drive-up unit you back up to your own door. Indoor units mean a cart and a hallway on every visit.

Ask for the total. Admin fees, required protection plans, ID requirements and in-store rates higher than the online rate all change what renting really involves. Ask each facility for the full move-in total.

Best for 24-hour access: Northshore Secure Storage

Units at 61864 LA-434 in Lacombe can be reached 24 hours a day, every unit is drive-up, and rent is month to month with no ID needed and no activation or admin fee. The first month is half off on an online rental. In October 2026 its 10×10 was $49 a month, against $70 online at Extra Space. North Shore Mini Storage in south Slidell also lists 24-hour access; of the two, Northshore Secure Storage has 10×10 units and longer office hours. Best near Lacombe and I-12: Northshore Secure Storage

It is the only facility in Lacombe, 3 minutes from central Lacombe and 1.3 miles from the I-12 ramp on LA-434. The next closest, Storage Rentals of America on Gause Blvd W and Safe-Stor on Florida St in Mandeville, are each about 8 minutes from central Lacombe.

Best for climate control: Extra Space Storage, Northshore Blvd

Extra Space is a national chain. Every unit it lists at 150 Northshore Blvd is indoor, on the first floor and climate controlled, from 5×5 up to 20×30, with a covered loading bay and moving carts. It is 11 minutes from central Lacombe, and its access hours are 6am to 10pm. Storage Rentals of America and Public Storage, both on Gause Blvd W, also have climate-controlled units, and in Mandeville so do Mandeville Self Storage and Safe-Stor Hwy 190.

Best for a national chain: Public Storage, Gause Blvd W

Public Storage is a national chain with corporate backing and many locations. Its Slidell site on Gause Blvd W has climate-controlled inside units and drive-up units from 10×20 up. Posted access hours are 6am to 10pm, with 24-hour access listed on some outside units, and there is a one-time $29 admin fee on a new rental.

Best for a staffed office in Mandeville: Mandeville Self Storage or Safe-Stor

Mandeville Self Storage on Florida St has a staffed office, both climate-controlled and non-climate units, and drive-up access. A valid ID is needed to rent there. Safe-Stor Hwy 190, also on Florida St, has an on-site manager and climate-controlled units. It does not publish prices, so a call is needed for a rate.

It is a different business from Northshore Secure Storage, at 4466 Pontchartrain Dr in Slidell, about 22 minutes from Lacombe. The two are compared on a page of their own.

Bedico Storage is at 27455 LA-22 in Ponchatoula, west of Madisonville, about 28 minutes from Lacombe. Its page says it has no climate-controlled units, access is 6am to 10pm and it is remotely managed, with no on-site staff. For anyone living in Bedico, it is the closer choice.
